A village gathered around supper.
Monte Santa Maria Tiberina is normally a quiet walled centre above the Aggia Valley. During its summer porchetta sagra, the terrace fills with shared tables, food service and the easy noise of several generations eating together. The thirty-second Sagra della Porchetta e dei Fagioli con le Cotiche ran from 6 to 9 August 2026; the photographs here were taken on 7 August.
That title tells you more than a generic “food festival” label. Porchetta and beans cooked with pork rind are the centre of the event’s identity; the evening around them is communal, practical and unmistakably local. It is worth attending on those terms.
How we would plan the evening from Il Palazzino.
The village is only a short drive from the house. Go early enough to follow the temporary signs in daylight, and wear shoes that make sense on slopes, steps and historic paving; this is especially important for children, older visitors and anyone with limited mobility.
A sagra may use its own ordering, ticket or table system. Follow the volunteers’ signs, bring a reasonable cash fallback and ask the organisers directly about accessibility or dietary arrangements.
Save the walk until after supper.
Monte’s best final act is not another course. Walk slowly through the central lanes and towards the outer viewpoints as the event settles into night. The walls, pale stone and fragments of valley become more atmospheric once the direct heat has gone.
From Il Palazzino, Monte is close enough for the evening to feel spontaneous. Joining the village’s local calendar for supper makes it memorable.
